OFSTED Readiness

The Call

Firstly - DON'T Panic....calmly, reach for your CLIPBOARD - it will have everything in it you need!. Answer the questions calmly and slowly. Remember to ask if the inspector has any special needs during the inspection. Explain where to park and advise them that their phone will need to left in the office at all times.

Pre-Visit Preparations

Once we have received the notification call, then call Nicky & Fred. No matter what else is going on, we will be able to work as a team and calmly ensure everything is ready for the visit.

Preparing staff

If your staff are tired or anxious they will not do their job well. You need to re-assure people. Give them confidence by showing we are prepared and ready for the Inspection. If you act afraid, they will be afraid! Some staff will want to help. Look at the 'Preparing the building' list to ensure everyone who wants to share the load, can!

Preparing the Paperwork (Our OFSTED folder)

OFSTED will expect to see a standard list of documents. Ensure these are all readily available for in our OFSTED folder.

Preparing yourself!

As the manager, you need to be rested and confident for the day. Try to sleep well and eat breakfast. You will be inspected with a team supporting you and it will hopefully be a shared and positive experience. You know your stuff!

The Learning Walk

This walk is how we explain our setting to the inspector. We need to be cofident as we have so much to show so we practice this walk (with subs! in case of absence on the day). The lead walker uses a clipboard as prompts because we want to ensure we cover everything.

Management Team Tasks on the Day!

Check the basics!

We need to use the skills of the whole team on the day of the inspection. The management team who are not on the learning walk should double check everything that is 'required' is completed on the day! signing in sheets are signed for staff and children, nappy sheets are being completed, allergy checks are fully done. Everyone will be anxious and mistakes can happen. Routine things can be forgotten in the fear of OFSTED in the building. The management team must check that everything is running as usual!

The Invisible Child

So often inspections can be let down by the inspector seeing a lonely child. Staff are so focused on their group whilst being inspected they miss the quiet child, the sad child, the child who is someone else's key child. Each room must work together to ensure no child is left unattended and seemingly uncared for. Even if they like their own quiet time!

The EIF Framework

The EIF was introduced in September 2019. It places more emphasis on the Quality of Education and introduces the notion of the 3i's.
